A small number of mild meniscus tears can be treated conservatively, while most severe meniscus tears require surgery. Meniscus is a crescent-shaped fibrous cartilage in the joint space between the femur and tibia, the middle part of the meniscus has no blood supply, and the nutrition mainly comes from synovial fluid. Generally, except for the tear at the near edge of the meniscus, it is difficult to heal, and the conservative treatment is generally ineffective. For mild meniscus tears (less than 5mm tear), stable marginal tears (the center of the tear is less than 3mm away from the edge of the meniscus, and the length of the tear is less than 1cm), conservative treatment can be tried, and the results are generally more satisfactory, and if the symptoms don’t improve for a long period of time, then surgical treatment can be carried out. If the symptoms do not improve over a long period of time, surgery can be performed. For menisci with more severe tears, close to the center, or with unstable free menisci, surgical resection or repair is required. The treatment plan for meniscus needs to depend on the condition, and it is recommended to seek timely medical treatment and standardized treatment.
