What salt is better for hypothyroidism?

Patients with hypothyroidism should choose the type of salt according to the actual situation. For patients with hypothyroidism living in remote mountainous areas and areas far from the sea, it is recommended to eat iodized salt. Normal adult body iodine content is 25-50mg, and the daily iodine requirement of adults is 100-300μg. People living in remote areas have low iodine content in their diets, so insufficient iodine intake by local residents can lead to endemic goiter, which can seriously cause hypothyroidism. However, some hypothyroidism patients are caused by excessive iodine intake, which is due to the presence of underlying thyroid diseases in their bodies, and the excessive iodine intake then induces hypothyroidism. Patients with excessive iodine intake such as these are not recommended to consume iodized salt or even require non-iodized salt. Therefore, patients with hypothyroidism should choose the type of salt according to their own condition, while residents living in remote mountainous areas or far away from the ocean areas with low iodine intake can choose iodized salt to prevent hypothyroidism.
