Clinical grading of breast ptosis is usually done using the Regnault grading system, which is categorized as mild ptosis, moderate ptosis, or severe ptosis. The Regnault classification is based on the position of the female nipple in relation to the inframammary fold and is categorized as mild, moderate or severe ptosis. Mild ptosis means that the nipple is flat or within 1cm of the inframammary fold, moderate ptosis means that the nipple is 1-3cm below the inframammary fold but still higher than the lower pole of the breast, and severe ptosis means that the nipple is >3cm below the inframammary fold and lower than the lower pole of the breast. A certain degree of breast ptosis occurs as women age or after breastfeeding. If patients are not satisfied with the shape of their breasts, they can go to the plastic surgery department of a regular hospital to correct abnormal breast ptosis through breast augmentation with autologous fat injection or breast implants.
