Topical nasal medication is the most common and simple treatment method, which is usually administered by the patients themselves; if the medication is taken in an incorrect position, the medication will flow into the throat, which will not only fail to play the proper therapeutic role, but will also make the patients feel disgusted. It is easy to make patients lose confidence. On the contrary, mastering the correct method of medication will not make the medicine flow into the mouth and produce discomfort.
The correct method is: first of all, the excessive secretions in the nasal cavity should be gently blown out, so that the medicine will be in full contact with the nasal mucosa when using the medicine, and will not be diluted by secretions to reduce the effectiveness of the medicine. Secondly, when administering the medicine, the patient should adopt a position where the nose is lower than the mouth. However, it must be noted that patients with hypertension and cervical spondylosis cannot adopt such a position, but can be changed to semi-recumbent position, and when administering medication to the right side of the nasal cavity, the head is inverted to the right shoulder. When administering medication to the left side, the head is inverted to the left. Once the position is chosen, the medicine bottle can be suspended above the nostrils and the medicine can be dripped/sprayed into the nasal cavity. This will not contaminate the medication by touching the nostrils. Finally, lie still in bed for 3-5 minutes so that the medicine stays in the nasal cavity and in contact with the nasal mucosa for a longer period of time. Then sit up slowly so that the head does not hang for too long and cause dizziness.
