Precautions after total hysterectomy

After discharge from the hospital, the following should be noted: 1. Take a full rest for three weeks after surgery, and refrain from sexual intercourse and tub bathing for more than three months. 2.Follow up with the outpatient clinic for one week after surgery. 3. Avoid strenuous exercise and heavy lifting for three to three months after surgery, and actively prevent and treat upper respiratory tract infections and constipation. 4. Some patients (about 10%) may have a small amount of vaginal blood discharge two to three weeks after surgery, which is due to the detachment of the absorbable suture from the vaginal stump. As long as the bleeding is less than the previous menstrual flow, no special treatment or medication is needed. In this case, please pay attention to strict rest and avoid excessive activities, generally the bloody vaginal discharge will decrease and disappear in a week or so. 5. Therefore, complete rest is essential for recovery during the first two to three weeks after surgery, and any physical work should be completely avoided during this period. In rare cases (about 5 per 1,000 or less), vaginal bleeding after surgery is greater than or equal to menstrual flow, in which case, please seek prompt emergency medical attention. 7. Please do not do vaginal douching after surgery, but use warm water to douche the vulva.
