This condition varies from person to person depending on the age of the patient, the onset of the condition, and the location and speed of growth of the bumps. In young people or children, if the bumps are visible on the eyelids, with significant localized congestion and swelling, and painful nodules when the eyelids are palpated, the inflammatory reaction of the lid glands is usually considered, and is clinically referred to as a whealsore or “needle’s eye”. In the early stages, you may consider hot and wet towels, antibiotic eye drops, and antibiotic eye ointment. If the symptoms worsen, antibiotic tablets and Chinese herbal medicines can be used systemically to clear the heat and detoxify the eye. Generally after 3 to 7 days, the hard nodules will gradually soften and yellowish-white pus may be found, which must then be treated with timely pus release in the hospital. Then continue the anti-inflammatory treatment and the bumps on the eyelids will gradually get better. If the bumps on the eyelids are not uncomfortable and are found unintentionally, they may be lid gland cysts, also known as chalazia. Generally small cysts can be treated conservatively for a while and some patients may subside on their own, but if they do not subside, or if they are larger cysts, it is better to consider surgical removal in the hospital. If a small bump appears on the white of the eye, which appears as a localized congested bulge, it may be a vesicular conjunctivitis. It is somewhat self-limiting and can also be treated with hormonal eye drops. If an older person over 50 years of age finds bumps on the eyelids that do not hurt or itch, sometimes break down and bleed, some have pigmentation, have recently grown significantly, and feel hard to the touch with no pressure pain, this should alert the possibility of eyelid tumors. Be sure to seek medical attention as soon as possible. Therefore, if you find small bumps on your eyes, don’t treat them by yourself or use medication, it is recommended to go to the hospital ophthalmology department in time.
