Astigmatism in the human eye is mainly related to genetics or acquired development. Usually, if parents or grandparents have high astigmatism, the child will easily suffer from high astigmatism. If there is no genetic factor, and the degree of astigmatism is not very high, then it is usually related to the acquired development, such as sleeping on their stomachs, or often rubbing their eyes, which will cause abnormal development of the acquired eyeballs, resulting in astigmatism. But generally speaking, this kind of astigmatism is not very high, usually about 200-300 degrees. If the astigmatism is higher than 300 degrees and increases every year, it may be caused by cone cornea disease. This type of astigmatism is pathologic and needs to be managed in a timely manner, often requiring cross-linking surgery and possibly even a corneal transplant at a later stage.
