Is it okay to have more chemotherapy for non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma?

Chemotherapy is a cyclical treatment. How is the cycle of chemotherapy for non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma determined? Chemotherapy for non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma is 21 days for 1 cycle and usually takes 6 to 8 cycles. The pattern of declining white blood cells after chemotherapy was mentioned earlier, and the entire chemotherapy cycle is formulated according to the cyclical changes of white blood cells. When is it necessary to increase the number of chemotherapy cycles? Is it true that the more chemotherapy is done, the more complete it is? How to assess the efficacy of chemotherapy in patients? The more chemotherapy is given, the more complete it is. Patients should not be over- or under-treated. Six to eight cycles is the standard of care in cases where first-line therapy is in excellent remission. Take diffuse large B-cell lymphoma as an example, its first-line treatment requires a full dose and a full course of therapy, and we will evaluate the effect of chemotherapy at the midpoint of the patient’s treatment. If the PET-CT result is negative, it indicates that the tumor lesion is not active and the patient’s treatment outcome is predicted to be good, and then we will continue to do another 3-4 cycles of chemotherapy to complete 6-8 cycles in total. If there are still positive lesions at the time of 3~4 cycle evaluation, the doctor will adjust the later chemotherapy regimen and the patient may need to do intensive therapy. If remission is still not achieved after 8 cycles, additional treatment may be continued. Therefore, chemotherapy is individualized treatment and the efficacy of the patient’s treatment regimen is greatly influenced by the medication used. PET-CT is one way to evaluate the efficacy of chemotherapy. In addition to this, CT and ultrasound are done every two cycles, and blood tests are done twice a week. Does having chemotherapy a few days early or a few days late for various reasons have an effect on the efficacy of treatment? A few days earlier or later chemotherapy will not have much effect on the treatment. But a few days later should not be too much later.
