Lymphatic Stoplight Health Storytelling (1)

Expert: Qiaohua Zhang, Director of Lymphoma Department of Shanxi University Hospital, chief physician, professor, enjoys national special allowance, master’s tutor, and provincial leading expert. She has been engaged in clinical work for more than 30 years. In 1986, she undertook the first case of bone marrow transplantation for lymphoma combined with leukemia in North China, and in 1994, she presided over the sub-project of the national “Ninth Five-Year Plan” – autologous peripheral hematopoietic stem cell transplantation for the treatment of hematological tumors and solid tumors. In 1994, he presided over the national “Ninth Five-Year Plan” sub-project – autologous peripheral hematopoietic stem cell transplantation for hematological tumors and solid tumors, which increased the cure rate of lymphoma to 78%. The Department of Lymphoma of Shanxi University Hospital is the only department in Shanxi Province that specializes in the treatment of malignant tumors of the lymphatic system, including lymphoma, myeloma, acute lymphocytic leukemia, chronic lymphocytic leukemia, and other chemotherapy-sensitive malignant tumors. Lymphocytes are the “health guards” of the human body, responsible for resisting the invasion of foreign bacteria and viruses, removing aging and necrotic cells, maintaining the “neat and orderly” environment of the body, and ensuring the health of the human body. It ensures the health of human body. After maturity, lymphocytes will “migrate” with blood vessels throughout the body and reside in lymph nodes, which are like troop “posts” standing guard for health. The lymph nodes are connected by a collection of lymphatic vessels that form a “defensive wall” to protect human health. If there is any abnormality in the lymph nodes, whether it is lymphadenitis, lymph node enlargement, or lymphoma, the body will issue a warning, which we call “lymphatic traffic light” figuratively. Once the lymphatic red light is on, it is necessary to go to a regular hospital for standardized diagnosis and treatment as soon as possible. Starting from this issue, we will launch several chapters of “lymphatic traffic light” health storytelling – lymphatic sentinel, recovery harbor, spiritual club, and life station. Let lymph stand guard for health, and let doctors stand guard for lymph. Chapter 1 – Lymphatic Sentinel(1) Lymphocytes flow throughout the body with blood, just like a “sentinel”, escorting for health. The nature of lymphocytes is to fight endlessly, and the lymph nodes and lymphatic tissues almost all over the body are their “battlefield”. It is not surprising that lymphocytes undergo quantitative and/or qualitative changes under prolonged combat conditions and stress. Whenever there is an abnormality in the lymphocytes, the “post” lights up red, which is an alarm for health …… Lymphadenitis ≠ lymphoma, do not panic Lymphadenitis is caused by bacteria invading the lymph nodes along the lymphatic vessels, but it does not occur when you encounter bacterial infection, people Lymphadenitis only occurs when a person’s resistance is significantly reduced by chronic malnutrition, anemia, and other chronic diseases, and when they are infected with bacteria. Lymphadenitis is often seen in people who have a cold or other infections and have nodules the size of glass balls in the neck, behind the ears, in the armpits or in the groin, which are locally red, swollen, painful and hard when pressed. The current treatment is mainly anti-inflammatory, and most of them can be cured by regular and adequate treatment. Xiaolei is a beloved white angel, and in the ward where she works, patients affectionately call her the “smiling angel”. But recently, Xiao Lei was always sullen and unhappy. After the attentive head nurse asked, she said she suddenly found a small lump on her neck, and from time to time it would be painful …… A week later the lymph nodes were getting bigger and bigger, the size of a walnut, swollen and painful, with a fever of up to 38 degrees at night. She checked a lot of related information on the Internet and painfully thought she had lymphoma. Led by the head nurse, they both met with Director Qiaohua Zhang, who had been doing research on the diagnosis and treatment of lymphadenitis and lymphoma over the years and had her own unique experience with similar conditions. When Xiaolei introduced her condition, Director Zhang very calmly told her, “Xiaolei, before the disease is diagnosed, you must not be defeated by it mentally, but be positive and optimistic.” Xiao Lei had the relevant tests done, and during the tense waiting stage, Xiao Lei’s twin sister approached Director Zhang and said: If her sister really had lymphoma, she must do a bone marrow match for her sister to save her life …… The results came out – necrotizing lymphadenitis! Director Zhang looked at the results and explained in detail: “Although the initial symptoms of lymphadenitis and lymphoma are similar, there are differences in essence – necrotizing lymphadenitis is a benign lesion that often manifests itself as pain; whereas lymphoma is a malignant tumor that is mostly painless. Necrotizing lymphadenitis is mainly treated by antibacterial agents, hormones and combined with traditional Chinese medicine. The key is also to establish a good attitude from within to fight with the disease, and it will not take long to heal.” With the efforts of the medical staff and Xiaolei’s active cooperation, her disease was quickly cured. After this heart touching experience, Xiao Lei loves her career even more. There are many other similar cases – a young girl with swollen lymph nodes in her neck with pain and fever, thought she had lymphoma and was depressed. It turned out to be scrub typhus, which was quickly cured by regular anti-inflammatory treatment. A child less than two years old had intermittent fever since the swollen lymph nodes, and profuse sweating was evident, and the test result was brucellosis. After a full course of treatment, the child was quickly cured. A middle-aged woman had a lump on the right side of her neck, which grew gradually, did not hurt, did not itch, slid when pushed, and had no obvious pressure pain, accompanied by low fever, night sweats, loss of appetite, and lost 5 kg in a short time, and she was so nervous that she could not sleep at night. After diagnosed as lymphatic tuberculosis, she was cured after standard treatment …… Zhang Qiaohua reminded that although the typical clinical manifestation of lymphoma is lymph node enlargement, it does not necessarily mean lymphoma when the lymph nodes are enlarged. For example, rheumatism, tuberculosis, lymphadenitis, brucellosis, scrub typhus, AIDS, etc. can all show such symptoms. Therefore, there is no need to panic if the lymph nodes are swollen, but you should definitely go to the hospital in time. Director Zhang’s words: 1. Lymphocytes are the “health guards” of the human body. 2, the lymphatic “red light” only a few people will suffer from lymphoma, most people do not need to panic, but should go to the regular hospital in time to do the corresponding examination and treatment. The medical team of Lymphoma Department of Shanxi University Hospital is doing research on the correlation between lymphadenitis, lymphoma and EBV, looking for a new way to treat lymphoma in a unique way, and is committed to solving the mystery of lymphatic “red light”.
