How many breaths a minute?

Normal adult respiratory rate is between 16-20 breaths per minute, if it is lower than 16 breaths you need to watch out for overdose of sedative drugs or acidosis caused by diabetic ketoacidosis or uremia. If the respiratory rate is greater than 20, the lungs need to be checked for hypoxic changes caused by bronchial asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, severe pneumonia, and lung tumors. If, after arterial blood gas analysis, the oxygen saturation is less than 80% or less than 60% in hypoxemia or type I respiratory failure, the respiratory rate will be significantly increased, and oxygen must be given as soon as possible, or even non-invasive ventilator-assisted therapy. The respiratory rate of young children and women is slightly higher than that of adults, but this is a physiological phenomenon that should not be taken too seriously.
