Duration of prophylactic medication for surgical procedures

The timing of prophylactic medication for surgical procedures depends on what kind of medication is being used. If antibiotics are being used, the medication is usually given about half an hour before the surgery. If the intraoperative time is more than three hours or more, an additional dose of antibiotics is required. If there is a significant infection after the procedure, this is when antibiotics need to be continued for treatment. If anticoagulants need to be given, it is 6-12 hours before surgery. So different patients have different conditions and the timing of their medication is not quite the same. It needs to be analyzed specifically according to the patient’s condition and can be consulted with the attending physician. During the surgery, patients also need to pay attention to the symptoms of discomfort, because after using antibiotics, nausea, vomiting and other symptoms may occur, do not worry too much, in serious cases need to stop the medication, or give other drugs to counteract.
