How to read colposcopy report results

Colposcopy results can be determined as follows: First, a score of 0-2 on the colposcopy report refers to HPV infection or mild atypical hyperplasia, which is treated as chronic inflammation and given antiviral medication. If the report shows areas of discoloration after the white acetate test or the iodine test, a pathological biopsy is required, and most cases of low grade or higher lesions are atypical hyperplasia. Second, the score is 3-5, between mild atypical hyperplasia and moderate atypical hyperplasia, which requires microwave or laparotomy treatment. Third, a score of 6-8 is for moderate and severe atypical hyperplasia, which can be treated with microwave or cone surgery depending on the age of the patient and the extent of the lesion. Colposcopy is mainly used to see if there are malignant lesions in the cervix. If benign lesions are treated with medication, but if malignant lesions are found, early surgery is needed. The colposcope itself has a magnification of 10-40 times and can clearly observe any abnormal vascular growths in the cervix.
