What is a colposcopy looking for

Colposcopy is performed to find out if there are any abnormalities in the cervical or vaginal epithelium. The test involves magnifying the local tissue and then observing it, taking pathology tests, and finally, based on the pathology results, finding out if there is a lesion in the cervical or vaginal epithelium. Usually, if there is an abnormality in the TCT or if the HPV test reveals a high-risk HPV infection, colposcopy will be done and pathology will be sent to the laboratory for examination and then treatment will be given based on the pathology results. Also colposcopy should be done for abnormal masses in the cervix suspected to be cervical cancer to avoid any missed diagnosis. It is recommended that all women, such as those who have had sexual intercourse for more than three years and those who are married, should be screened for cervical cancer once a year.
