Are colposcopy and biopsy the same thing?

Colposcopy and biopsy are not the same thing. Colposcopy is an examination, while biopsy is a surgical procedure. Colposcopy is non-invasive, while biopsy is invasive. Colposcopy is mainly to find out if there are any suspicious lesions in the cervix, and only if there are abnormalities on colposcopy is a cervical biopsy performed. If the cervix has a normal shape under colposcopy, no further cervical biopsy is needed. If abnormal TCT is found during cervical cancer screening or persistent HPV high-risk infection, colposcopy is needed to identify suspicious areas under colposcopy and then further biopsy to clarify whether there are lesions in the cervix.
