Is a white, thick, greasy tongue damp or cold?

A white, thick and greasy tongue may be a manifestation of phlegm-dampness stagnation, or dampness and cold stagnation in the body. Specifically, the four diagnoses should be combined to identify and treat the symptoms. A healthy person has thin white moss. The greasy moss is mostly caused by the internalization of dampness, the suppression of yang qi, and the stagnation of dampness and phlegm on the tongue. Thick moss is caused by the stomach qi entrapping dampness, phlegm, food, heat and other fumigation, stagnation of the tongue caused by the main phlegm-dampness, food accumulation (food indigestion and accumulation in the stomach), internal heat and other certificates. If the tongue is white and thick, it is due to internal obstruction of phlegm, cold and dampness, and yang qi is curbed and qi is blocked (the operation of qi is hindered). If accompanied by loose stools (thin and unformed feces), drowsiness, dullness (lack of appetite, reduced food intake) and other manifestations, most of them are phlegm-dampness internal obstruction, and need to be treated with Chen Pi, Poria, Coix Seed and so on. It is recommended that people with white, thick and greasy tongues should consult a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner at a professional medical institution and choose the right prescription for themselves.
