Which cataract IOL is better

The choice of which type of IOL is better for cataract surgery should not be generalized and should be based on the patient’s actual condition. At present, IOLs can be categorized into monofocal and multifocal IOLs according to the different functional designs of the system. 1. Monofocal IOL: It is the most traditional and longest used type of IOL. The so-called monofocal refers to the fact that it has only one focal point, and the lens can only focus on specific distances, i.e., long distance, intermediate distance and near distance. If the IOL is designed for distance vision, the patient will be able to see clearly at a distance after implantation, but will need to wear presbyopia glasses to correct the vision at a nearer distance. If the lens is designed for near distance, the patient will be able to read books and newspapers clearly, but will need to wear myopic glasses for correcting the distance. 2. Multifocal lens: It is a high-end artificial lens, which can realize the state of imaging on the retina of multiple vision ranges at the same time for distance, middle and near through the diffraction ring on the crystal, which can satisfy the patients’ demand for full vision to a certain extent. To summarize, patients are advised to contact their ophthalmologists with their own eye conditions and eye needs, and choose the IOL that suits their needs based on a comprehensive evaluation of the preoperative examination.
