How are negative symptoms of schizophrenia treated?

There is no particularly effective treatment for the negative symptoms of schizophrenia. Generally, four aspects are considered: 1. Whether the positive symptoms are truly under control. Sometimes some of the patient’s withdrawal behaviors occur under the influence of positive symptoms. This requires an in-depth psychiatric examination by a psychiatrist with extensive clinical experience. 2. Adequate and effective social contact. Do not be overprotective of the patient and avoid social contact because of the presence of schizophrenia because the patient is worried that adverse external stimuli may cause a relapse. It is important to understand that patients without rich social contact will rapidly enter into decline and have reduced social competence. We therefore emphasize the importance of promptly returning the patient to society once treatment has been effective, even if the patient still has some psychiatric symptoms. For patients whose treatment is effective, they are capable of taking on a certain amount of adverse external stimuli. If they relapse because of this, it only means that the medication is actually not sufficient. 3, can be combined with the use of antidepressants, generally can choose fluoxetine drugs. 4.Change of medication. Under the guidance of an experienced doctor, you can consider switching to an antipsychotic drug with less sedative effect. It is beneficial to promote the patient’s return to society. But switching medications has the risk of causing a relapse of the disease, which is why we emphasize the need to choose medications with few side effects when treating schizophrenia for the first time.
