How long can schizophrenia live?

How long one can live with schizophrenia requires a case-by-case analysis and cannot be generalized. Schizophrenia is one of the common mental illnesses that manifests as abnormalities in perception, thinking, emotion, and behavior. In severe cases, there may be no self-awareness, hallucinations, or even injury to others or self-injury. A small number of schizophrenic patients can achieve recovery with active and systematic treatment, but most schizophrenic patients, however, require long-term or even lifelong antipsychotic medication. The length of their life depends on whether they are accompanied by serious physical illnesses and the severity of the damage to the organism caused by long-term drug use. Some studies have also found that the average life expectancy of schizophrenic patients is lower than that of the general population, with an average of 15-20 years. Patients with schizophrenia are advised to take their medication, work and rest regularly, avoid staying up late, and try to keep their emotions stable and avoid agitation and other factors that may trigger an attack.
