The first thing to do is to rule out calluses and the second thing for older people is to seek medical attention to rule out skin tumours. The majority of bumps are warts or eczema, both of which can recover on their own with good palm hygiene, but if they are red, swollen or painful they need to seek medical attention as soon as possible. Patients should also avoid close contact with people with warts. If necessary, laser and cryotherapy can be applied, as well as topical treatment with salicylic acid ointment and retinoic acid ointment.
