Criteria for determining respiratory and cardiac arrest

Respiratory arrest is manifested by loss of consciousness, loss of pulse, and undetectable blood pressure. The criterion for judgment is to call loudly and tap the patient, and if the patient does not respond, loss of consciousness. Palpate both sides of the carotid artery separately, if no pulsation of the carotid artery can be touched, it indicates that the heart has stopped beating. Observe the undulating movement of the chest without respiratory movement. If no gas passes through the nose when touched, respiration has stopped. Observe the patient’s pupils. If the pupils are dilated and reach the edge, with a diameter of 4 mm, and the pupil’s reflex to light disappears and is fixed by shining a torch, and the electrocardiogram suggests a straight line, the heart has stopped. After the above examination, it can be determined that the respiratory and cardiac arrest, the patient is facing death at this time, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation rescue treatment needs to be carried out immediately.
