Why are menstrual cramps worse after doing moxibustion?

Dysmenorrhea needs to be examined in a regular hospital first to rule out secondary dysmenorrhea caused by diseases such as pelvic inflammatory disease. The primary type is divided into evidence type, not all evidence type is suitable for moxibustion, need to listen to the Chinese medicine practitioner’s evidence guidance. If the dysmenorrhea is worse after moxibustion, it may be due to dampness-heat accumulation (the accumulation of dampness and heat in the body) type of dysmenorrhea. In Chinese gynecology, dysmenorrhea is categorized into different types: kidney qi deficiency, qi and blood weakness, qi stagnation and blood stasis (stagnation of blood due to lack of qi flow), blood stasis due to cold condensation, and dampness-heat stagnation (accumulation of dampness and heat evils in the body). Moxibustion can warm the meridians and dissipate cold (warming the meridians of the body to get rid of the cold in the body), invigorate blood circulation and remove blood stasis. Moxibustion is not usually used for damp-heat syndrome, as it may aggravate the heat in the body. The main symptoms of dysmenorrhea are burning pain in the abdomen, pain in the lumbar and sacral regions, purple and red menstrual color, deep yellow urine, yellowish tongue, etc. After excluding the primary dysmenorrhea, it is recommended to choose a suitable treatment for dysmenorrhea under the guidance of a Chinese medicine practitioner’s diagnosis, and not to do moxibustion on your own.
