What are the causes of pancreatic cancer?

Pancreatic cancer is a malignant tumor of pancreatic ductal epithelial origin with a very poor prognosis. The incidence is slightly higher in men than in women, and it is more prevalent over the age of 40. At present, the cause and mechanism of pancreatic cancer are not fully understood. The occurrence of pancreatic cancer may be related to the following factors: 1. Environmental factors: including smoking, alcohol abuse, high protein and high fat diet can promote the occurrence of pancreatic cancer. Many studies have confirmed that long-term smoking, especially for those who have smoked for more than 20 years, is a high risk factor for the development of pancreatic cancer. 2.Personal factors: gender, age, family genetic and genetic mutation factors. It may be related to men’s excessive exposure to occupational environment and carcinogenic substances, as well as poor lifestyle habits such as smoking and alcohol abuse. The occurrence of pancreatic cancer may be related to increased genetic susceptibility caused by mutations in various genes. About 10% of pancreatic cancer patients have a genetic background and are prone to family genetic predisposition. 3. Related other factors: diabetes is one of the risk factors for pancreatic cancer, especially in older patients with low body mass index and no family history of diabetes, who should be followed up and alerted to the possibility of pancreatic cancer when they have new onset of type 2 diabetes. Studies have identified chronic pancreatitis caused by alcohol, gallstone disease, genetic factors and other etiologies as risk factors for the development of pancreatic cancer. When pancreatic cancer is diagnosed, it is often at an advanced stage and the surgical resection rate is low. Therefore, it is necessary to pay attention to regular medical checkups in daily life to prevent and treat the disease.
