Do feet swell when uric acid is high?

Patients with high uric acid can develop swollen feet. Patients with high uric acid who experience an acute attack of gouty arthritis can have swollen feet, which can be accompanied by significant pain and increased local skin temperature. When patients have swollen and painful feet, they can take oral colchicine for anti-inflammatory pain relief. However, some patients who cannot tolerate colchicine can be replaced by non-steroidal pain medications, such as loxoprofen. After the pain is relieved, in order to avoid the reoccurrence of gout foot pain, it is necessary to add uric acid-lowering drugs to the treatment. Clinically, one of allopurinol, febuxostat or benzbromarone can be chosen for the continuous reduction of uric acid levels.
