What does it mean when a CT report card says emphysema?

A CT report card with emphysema means that you have emphysema or suspected emphysema.

Emphysema is a relatively common respiratory disease, which is a pathological state due to the decreased elasticity of the airways at the distal end of the terminal bronchi, resulting in over-inflation and inflation of the lungs, as well as an increase in lung volume.

The cause of emphysema is still unclear, may be due to smoking, environmental pollution or chronic bronchitis induced by the main symptoms caused by dyspnea, shortness of breath, if the combination of respiratory infections, but also easy to cause hypoxia.

Emphysema can not be diagnosed by CT examination, in order to confirm the diagnosis of emphysema, we need to do further tests, such as pulmonary function tests, blood gas analysis, etc., after the diagnosis with the doctor to take treatment.
