Barium meal shows thickening of gastric mucosa may be gastric ulcer, atrophic gastritis, gastric mass and other diseases, which can be treated with medication and surgery according to the cause of the disease.
1. Gastric ulcer: Gastric ulcer caused by medication or Helicobacter pylori infection may show symptoms of thickening of gastric mucosa on barium meal when the intrinsic glands of gastric mucosa are damaged. You can use omeprazole, aluminum thioglycollate to inhibit gastric acid secretion and promote mucosal repair; if there is Helicobacter pylori infection, it is also necessary to cooperate with metronidazole, amoxicillin, and other classic quadruple antimicrobial drug therapy.
2. Atrophic gastritis: Helicobacter pylori infection, bile reflux and other causes of atrophic gastritis, gastric mucosa atrophy of the intrinsic glands may be shown in the barium meal examination of the gastric mucosa thickening. If there is Helicobacter pylori infection, it is necessary to take the classic four antimicrobial drugs; if there is no Helicobacter pylori infection, it can be treated with drugs to protect the gastric mucosa, such as colloidal bismuth pectin.
3. Gastric mass: Gastric polyps, gastric cancer and other gastric masses may lead to reduction or atrophy of the intrinsic glands of gastric mucosa, resulting in thickening of gastric mucosa during barium meal examination. Surgical treatments such as major gastrectomy or total gastrectomy can be performed according to the results of the pathologic examination.
The thickening of gastric mucosa on barium meal may also be caused by other reasons, which need to be further examined by gastroscopy, pathological biopsy and other items under the guidance of the doctor’s treatment, and it is not recommended to use medication on one’s own.
