Half of all “asthma” patients may be misdiagnosed or have gastroesophageal reflux disease

Half of the patients with “asthma” may have been misdiagnosed, and the real cause may be “digestive tract disease”. Gastroesophageal reflux disease is often misdiagnosed as asthma, coronary heart disease, pharyngitis, rhinitis, etc. Doctors must pay attention to correct diagnosis and treatment. Gastroesophageal reflux disease, is the regurgitation of stomach and duodenal contents into the esophagus causing symptoms such as acid reflux, heartburn, chest pain or damage to the esophageal mucosa. According to research, the incidence of GERD is quietly increasing due to stressful work, frequent socializing and irregular meals, with about 7 to 9 out of every 100 people suffering from this disease. However, the awareness rate of this disease is not high, and those who are properly diagnosed and treated are the tip of the iceberg. According to statistics, more than 50% of asthma patients have symptoms of GERD, suggesting that this may be the real cause of the disease, and further research is needed to confirm it. Guangdong people prefer to eat late at night and do not eat regularly enough, so the prevalence of GERD is higher than the national average. People with the three “classic symptoms” of acid reflux, heartburn and chest pain should go to a specialist clinic for early diagnosis and treatment with medication, endoscopic radiofrequency or laparoscopic surgery.
