How long does it take to recover from open heart surgery

After open-heart surgery, patients can be discharged from the hospital in 3-5 days if there are no serious complications, and full recovery usually takes more than 1 month. Open-heart surgery is a method of intra-thoracic treatment using surgery between the ribs of the chest cavity. After open-heart surgery, it tends to create the possibility of pain during breathing, which can greatly affect the patient’s recovery. The patient’s thoracic movement during breathing and continuous and repeated movements can cause wound involvement, which in turn can lead to wound pain performance. In addition, patients are prone to coughing and pulmonary atelectasis after surgery, which can also affect the wound healing. Therefore, the recovery process of open-heart surgery is slow, but if the surgery goes well, generally on the first day after surgery, the patient can move to the ground without assistance, and can basically take care of himself, and can be discharged from the hospital in 3-5 days as soon as the drainage tube is removed. After open-heart surgery, if the recovery is good, patients can gradually transition from slow walking to climbing, trotting and other exercises to gradually increase the amount of exercise to restore physical strength and lung function and reduce the impact caused by the disease.
