Talking about bleeding gums

Bleeding gums, in general, are gums that bleed when you brush your teeth or when you eat. Almost most people will have bleeding gums at different times in their lives, and it is because gum bleeding is so common that people ask their friends and colleagues around them and stop paying attention to it because everyone has had it or they have had it many times. At the same time, some people are so nervous that frequent gum bleeding causes them great mental stress and they wonder all day long if they have “blood cancer”, that is, leukemia. So, is bleeding gums a serious problem, or is it really an indifferent phenomenon, like the common people often say, it’s just a “fire” that can be fixed with a few days of rest? In most cases, bleeding gums are not a manifestation of blood problems in the oral cavity, if it is a blood problem, generally speaking, there are many manifestations in the whole body, such as purpura and petechiae on the skin, etc. Gum bleeding, which is still mainly a localized problem in the mouth, is a phenomenon that can occur early in the course of periodontitis. In this way, is bleeding gums so insignificant that it really doesn’t matter? Personally, I think bleeding gums should be taken seriously enough. The principle of most gum bleeding is as follows: Due to the long-term lack of sufficient attention to maintaining oral hygiene, it leads to the accumulation of local calculus, which itself, as well as the bacteria and plaque attached to the surface of the calculus, cause continuous inflammatory stimulation of the periodontal tissues, resulting in long-term, continuous inflammation and congestion of the gum tissues. Thus, when stimulated by external forces, such as brushing teeth or eating hard objects such as apples, the inflamed and congested gum tissue will be squeezed and the hard and rough surface of the calculus will be squeezed to form ulcers and injuries, causing bleeding, and sometimes such bleeding is very serious, even continuous bleeding. Therefore, in the International Academy of Periodontology, severe gum bleeding is considered an acute condition that must be treated promptly by a periodontist. Many people will say that every time I bleed, I brush more gently, or even brush less often when the bleeding is severe, and then the bleeding stops. But at the same time, the food residue, bacteria and plaque left on the surface of the teeth cannot be effectively removed, so the lesion will actually become more and more serious in the long run. Therefore, after the phenomenon of bleeding gums occurs, the correct method should be to firstly carry out zoning brushing to determine the general area of bleeding, and secondly brush the bleeding area carefully and conscientiously in order to completely remove the external stimuli that cause gum inflammation, at this time there may be short-term bleeding aggravation, but once the inflammatory substances are removed, then the gum inflammation will be greatly improved and the gums will no longer bleed. If bleeding gums occur and cannot be reduced by careful brushing for more than a week, then it is important to seek professional help from a periodontist promptly. Brushing your teeth is something that everyone can do consistently and well every day, but going to the hospital is something that everyone is afraid of, both in terms of spending a long time in line and in terms of the very thing of going to the doctor. So, why not do something that you can do and do well, when you can do it yourself? I suggest that you brush your teeth carefully every day and do the “three threes”: brush your teeth three times a day, brush your teeth within three minutes after each meal, and brush your teeth for three minutes each time. Among them, the most important is that time at night, because when people rest, saliva secretion will be significantly reduced, the self-cleaning function of the oral cavity is weakened, if you can not brush well at night, then those inflammatory substances have the opportunity to stay in the mouth all night, full of serious damage to teeth and periodontal tissue. I often joke that brushing your teeth is like falling in love, you start seriously and get sloppy after a long time. I hope you will take the relationship of brushing your teeth seriously and talk about it for the rest of your life. At the same time, bleeding gums are soon followed by oral odor (also commonly known as bad breath) and other accompanying symptoms, which affect both your quality of life and your social life. At the same time, inflammation of periodontal tissues can cause more harm to pregnant women, such as high rates of premature births and miscarriages, and high rates of low birth weight newborns. There are also effects on the cardiovascular system, diabetic patients, etc. Therefore, bleeding gums, although not a serious disease in general, should still be taken seriously. Finally, a piece of advice: in general, because periodontal and dental problems in the early or even middle stages, patients do not feel any abnormalities in themselves, and when there is pain and other conditions, they often cause substantial damage again. Therefore, healthy adults, regardless of self-perception, whether there is pain, bleeding and other abnormalities, should adhere to the routine oral examination twice a year, the elderly and children is 3 to 4 times a year. In this way, each time to spend little time, but can effectively carry out early detection of oral problems, early intervention, so that the disease caused by the least harm.
