Gentamicin is commonly used in the clinic in three sizes: tablets, granules, and injections, for tablets and granules it needs to be taken orally, for injections it is not recommended to be taken orally.
Gentamicin can treat some digestive tract diseases caused by bacterial infection, such as bacterial dysentery, acute gastroenteritis and so on. If you want to take it orally, you can choose tablets and granules, but for injections, it is not recommended to take orally, and usually needs to be injected intramuscularly or intravenously.
For injection liquid after oral administration its antibacterial activity will be weakened, and the intestinal mucosa of its absorption is limited, can not achieve effective antibacterial effect. Oral gentamicin injection is prone to some toxic side effects when overdosed, so oral gentamicin injection is usually not recommended considering the effectiveness and safety of the drug.
Adverse reactions such as hearing loss, tinnitus, decreased urine output, loss of appetite and thirst may occur after gentamicin administration. It should be contraindicated for those who are allergic to the drug. It should be used with caution in patients with impaired kidney function, myasthenia gravis, Parkinson’s patients, children, and the elderly.
The drug should be applied under the supervision of a doctor. If discomfort occurs, it is recommended to go to the hospital as soon as possible, with the help of the doctor to give targeted treatment, do not self-medication, so as not to delay the condition.
