A four-step plan for the treatment of strabismus and amblyopia

When a child suffers from strabismus or amblyopia, it is the parents who are most worried. At this time, some parents will be at a loss as to what to do, and even rush to seek treatment. In fact, the treatment of strabismus and amblyopia is a big project that requires a process, a planned process. 1. Eliminate inhibition. Strabismus and amblyopia mainly occur during visual development, greatly inhibiting the formation of visual function. Therefore, the basic task of treatment is to eliminate inhibition. The principle of masking treatment based on the solution of refractive error is to mask the healthy eye to force the use of the affected eye, eliminating monocular inhibition, diplopia and confusing vision, in order to promote the recovery of visual function. 2.Improve visual acuity. Improving visual acuity is the fundamental purpose of strabismus and amblyopia treatment. Fine visual training can effectively promote the visual development of patients and achieve the effect of visual enhancement. Fine eye training includes threading needles, tracing and drawing, threading beads, etc., which can be chosen by patients according to their own conditions. 3.Correcting eye position. Correcting eye position is an important measure to eliminate diplopia in patients with strabismus and amblyopia and prevent monocular suppression and amblyopia. Correction of eye position should be based on the nature of the choice of suitable methods, in order to create conditions for the recovery of binocular monovision, so that binocular vision is normal development. After the correction of eye position, we should also continue the visual function training and closely observe the change of visual acuity and eye position. 4.Fusion function. Seeing that the child’s vision is restored to normal, many parents think that there is no need for strabismus and amblyopia treatment. In fact, this is wrong. Most of the children with strabismus and amblyopia not only do not have the function of seeing objects with both eyes at the same time, but also have defects in fusion function and stereoscopic vision. After the visual acuity of the amblyopic eye is normalized, amblyopia training should be continued to build up the fusion function, restore stereo vision, and ultimately obtain normal stereo vision.
