Follicle stimulating hormone, also known as follicle stimulating hormone, has a normal value between 5 and 40 mlu/ml. Follicle stimulating hormone is secreted by the pituitary gland and its main function is to promote the development and maturation of follicles. During the follicular phase the values range from 2.12-10.89mlu/ml, during ovulation from 19.18-103.03mlu/ml, during the luteal phase from 1.2-12mu/ml and for postmenopausal women from 10.8-58.6mlu/ml. Therefore, women are advised to go to the hospital to have their blood drawn around the third day of menstruation in order to ensure the correctness of the folliculopoietin results.
