Severe varicose veins do not lead to amputation either. The severity of varicose veins can be such that blood clots form within the varicose veins and varicose veins can lead to the formation of ulcers which are very difficult to treat and do not heal over time, but none of these causes will lead to amputation. Because varicose veins occur in superficial areas, they do not affect the nerves, muscles, or bones of the body. Although the skin breaks down and does not heal, or blood clots form and painful symptoms occur, they do not cause movement disorders in the lower limbs and do not lead to amputation.
