The umbilical cord should be disconnected about one minute after birth, and the umbilical cord should be sterilized and wrapped. Parents should observe the umbilical cord daily for any abnormalities, such as bleeding or abnormal secretions at the root of the umbilical cord, and keep the umbilical cord dry by gently wiping it with iodophor. If the umbilical cord is red, swollen or has purulent discharge, it may be infected and parents should take the child to the hospital for examination. After the child is born, parents need to closely observe whether the umbilical cord falls off or not. Generally, it will fall off about a week after delivery, and there may be a small amount of bleeding during the period of gradual falling off, so pay attention to cleaning and disinfection, and it can generally heal by itself.
