Precautions for systemic lupus erythematosus

Diet: There are few contraindications to the diet of SLE patients, but there are still areas that need attention: (1) Photosensitizing foods need to be avoided. Common photosensitizing foods include: mud snail, ashwagandha, purple clover, snow lettuce, fennel, amaranth, shepherd’s purse, celery, radish leaves, buckwheat, cilantro, safflower, rape, mustard, spinach, figs, nepeta, leek, and bone marrow (Chinese medicine). (3) For patients with kidney involvement, a low-salt, low-fat, high-quality protein diet is required. (i.e. avoid “red meat” and beans and try to eat “white meat”) (4) For patients who are taking hormone therapy, since hormones have adverse effects such as elevated blood sugar, blood pressure, blood lipids and osteoporosis, they should try to eat a low-salt, low-fat diet and avoid drinking alcohol. Not much attention is required for the daily care of SLE, but it is still necessary to pay attention to: (1) Avoiding light, especially summer exposure to the sun. If you have to go out in summer, you should wear an umbrella and sunscreen. (2) Avoid going to places with too many people and poor air circulation to prevent infection. (3) Avoid overexertion.
