Methods of performing CPR to open the airway

There are three ways to open the airway for CPR: 1. The chin-up method, which is the most commonly used, usually involves the operator pressing the small interosseous muscle of one hand against the patient’s forehead and then pressing downward to lift the patient’s head upward, and then using the index and middle fingers of the other hand to lift the patient’s chin so that the head is tilted back and the airway is opened. 2. The neck-up method, which also involves the operator using the small interosseous muscle of one hand against the patient’s forehead and then pressing downward to lift the patient’s head upward. This method is usually used for patients with cervical trauma to avoid neck movement and to prevent possible cervical fracture and open the airway. This method is usually used in patients with cervical trauma to avoid movement of the neck, thus preventing possible cervical fractures that could lead to secondary injuries.
