Can I have surgery for a deep fungal eye infection?

Patients with fungal eye infections need to be treated with antifungal medications as prescribed by the doctor, or surgically if the condition requires, such as fungal corneal ulcers, fungal endophthalmitis, and so on. When patients have fungal corneal ulcers, patients can first follow the doctor’s instructions to use drugs to control the infection, such as fluconazole eye drops, natamycin eye drops and so on. If the infection cannot be controlled and there is a risk of corneal perforation or endophthalmitis, the patient will need to be treated with surgery, such as a corneal transplant. Patients with fungal endophthalmitis need to be treated as soon as possible with surgery, such as vitrectomy, and vitreous lavage with antifungal medications, such as voriconazole. It is recommended that patients with fungal eye infections seek medical attention to evaluate their condition and follow the doctor’s instructions for treatment.
