Ebastine tablets can be taken either before or after a meal, regardless of the time of taking the tablets. Since Ebastine tablets have the side effect of causing drowsiness, it is best to take them at night before going to bed. Ebastine tablets are antihistamines and are mainly indicated for the treatment of allergic conjunctivitis, allergic rhinitis, and chronic idiopathic urticaria. The most common side effects that patients experience when taking Ebastine tablets are headache, drowsiness and dry mouth. Ebastine should be used with caution in patients who already have risk factors for heart disease, such as prolonged ECG QT interval, hypokalemia, and who are taking medications with prolonged QT interval, CYP3A4 enzyme inhibitors such as ketoconazole, azole antifungals such as itraconazole, and macrolide antibiotics such as erythromycin. Because ebastine acts after 1-3 hours of administration, it is not indicated for monotherapy of acute allergy.
