What are the characteristics of erythema annulare?

There are many different types of erythema annulare with different clinical manifestations, such as telecentric erythema annulare, where the erythema enlarges eccentrically into a ring shape within a few days, with recurrent episodes and no atrophic changes in the lesions. Histologically, the lesions are mainly infiltrated by lymphocytes and histiocytes; rheumatic erythema annulare, which occurs on the upper abdomen and the flexors of the limbs, but rarely on the face and hands, starts as a pale red annular erythema that rapidly expands to the periphery and gradually fades in the centre, usually without pain or itching.
