The onset of nasal base depression is influenced by many factors and can be divided into 3 types according to the extent of nasal base depression, namely paranasal depression, pear-shaped foramen area depression and total maxillary anterior wall depression. The main purpose of the surgery is to restore the length and height of the nose and to fill the depression of the nasal base. Graft filling, i.e. filling with granular rib cartilage at the same time as rhinoplasty, is an effective way to compensate for the lack of bone volume around the pear-shaped foramen. In patients with mild facial depressions, orthodontic treatment is all that is needed to conceal the lack of midface depression. In moderate cases, bone and cartilage grafts or a combination of artificial materials can be used to repair or reshape the nasal deformity and treat the midface depression. In severe cases, not only the nasal deformity is repaired, but also the maxillary deformity is corrected and some patients require midface lipofilling.
