What are nifedipine controlled release tablets

Nifedipine is a dihydropyridine calcium antagonist, mainly used in the treatment of hypertension, coronary heart disease and chronic stable angina. Nifedipine dilates coronary arteries, especially large blood vessels, which can reduce the tension of coronary artery smooth muscle, prevent vasospasm, increase blood flow to narrowed vessels, and improve oxygen supply. At the same time, nifedipine reduces oxygen demand because it lowers peripheral resistance. Long-term use of nifedipine prevents the development of new coronary atherosclerotic disease. Adverse effects of nifedipine include headache, edema, vasodilation, and constipation.
