The difference between bone puncture and lumbar puncture

The difference between bone puncture and lumbar puncture is that the site of the puncture is different. The site of lumbar puncture is usually chosen for the lumbar spine, and the puncture is performed below the spinous process of the fourth lumbar vertebra. Most lumbar punctures are performed clinically to exclude diseases such as septic meningitis and viral meningitis, including vascular diseases and spinal cord lesions. The site of bone puncture is usually chosen to be the iliac bone, where bone marrow fluid is extracted, mainly to rule out diseases such as leukemia, tumors, and rheumatism. Both lumbar puncture and bone puncture should be done under the guidance of a physician, with good aseptic operation to avoid infection.
