What does ischemic cerebral white matter high signal mean?

Ischemic cerebral white matter high signal usually means that when the patient has a cranial magnetic resonance, the cerebral white matter shows a high bright signal on the T2 sequence or FLAIR sequence, which is often caused by ischemia leading to cerebral white matter lesions. Most elderly people have cerebral atherosclerosis, high cholesterol, and diabetes mellitus, which are common causes of ischemic leukoencephalopathy; while young people may suffer from insufficient blood supply to the brain due to stress, pressure, and sleep deprivation, leading to ischemic leukoencephalopathy. Mild cases of ischemic leukoencephalopathy may not have any clinical signs and symptoms, but in severe cases, patients may suffer from memory loss, lack of concentration, and may even lead to dementia and coma. If ischemic leukoencephalopathy occurs, it is recommended to consult a doctor in time and actively cooperate with the doctor for treatment to avoid aggravation of the condition.
