In March, although it was cold and windy in Shenyang, we couldn’t stop the spring. After a Spring Festival and a pleasant winter vacation, children went back to school. During this holiday, some students are busy playing, some are busy cramming their homework while some children are busy seeing a doctor. Adenoid hypertrophy is a common disease in childhood, generally speaking, the adenoids develop to the maximum at the age of 6-7 years, and gradually shrink after the age of 10 years, adenoids and tonsils are part of the lymphatic ring of the pharynx, involved in the immune role of the body in childhood, but it is different from the tonsils is the location of the adenoids hidden, not easy to find, due to long-term inflammatory stimulation leads to adenoid hypertrophy, affecting the physical and mental health of children, in recent years In recent years, through our clinical observation, we found that the trend of children suffering from adenoid hypertrophy has been increasing year by year, and there are few children who still have adenoid hypertrophy after the age of 10. The reasons are caused by various factors: 1. repeated inflammatory stimulation of upper respiratory infections; 2. due to the prevalence of cold and humid areas, which may be related to the climate; 3. certain additives contained in pediatric food, stimulating adenoid hypertrophy. So what are the dangers of adenoid hypertrophy? We believe that there are the following: 1, due to its hypertrophic adenoids blocking the posterior nostrils leading to nasal congestion, children snore during sleep, causing sleep apnea hypoventilation syndrome in serious cases; 2, hypertrophic adenoids blocking the pharyngeal orifice of the eustachian tube, causing secretory otitis media, leading to hearing loss; 3, due to long-term open-mouth breathing, jaw and facial development disorders, the maxilla becomes longer, palatal arch high arch, dental alignment, lip thickness, upper lip The upper lip is thick, the lower lip is hanging, and the face lacks expression and is depressed, resulting in the so-called “adenoid face”; 4, the long-term lack of oxygen leads to backward intellectual development. Although adenoid hypertrophy is a minor disease, it can cause such serious consequences that parents should not ignore it. In terms of treatment, we believe that once adenoid hypertrophy is diagnosed, surgical removal is the only reliable and effective treatment measure. At present, the adenoids are removed by endoscopic automatic surgical cutter under general anesthesia in our department, which is operated under clear vision, with complete removal, reliable hemostasis, avoiding unnecessary side injuries, not easy to recur, safe and effective, which is a major change from the classic traditional surgery for decades.
