The condition of scanty and prolonged menstruation should be described as intermittent small vaginal bleeding. The occurrence of this condition may be due to atrophy of the corpus luteum of the ovary, or insufficiency of the corpus luteum, or it may be due to the presence of abnormal growths in the uterine cavity which cause the above condition to occur. In all cases, the management of this condition should follow the procedure for abnormal uterine bleeding. The possibility of pregnancy-related disease is ruled out, and HCG and ultrasound are performed. If pregnancy is ruled out, a hysteroscopy should be performed to see if there are any abnormal growths in the uterine cavity. Endometrial scraping is also performed, and follow-up is based on the pathologic findings. If the pathology result is benign, then it is also considered that the ovarian luteal insufficiency, combined with the level of sex hormone examination, can be adjusted with progesterone and other drugs. If not, it is a malignant hyperplasia, then surgical intervention may be required.
