How can varicose veins be treated if I don’t want to have surgery?

When varicose veins are relatively mild, they can be treated without surgery, or if the patient is busy and does not have time for surgery, there are methods and techniques that can reduce the symptoms of varicose veins and slow down the development of varicose veins, potentially eliminating the need for surgery in the future. For varicose veins, conservative treatment methods to relieve venous pressure in the lower limbs are most important. 1, avoid standing in place for a long time, you can walk intermittently, so that the leg muscles move (calf muscle tissue is called the second heart), return the venous blood, reduce the pressure on the legs; when sitting for a long time, often change the sitting position or place the calf horizontally, can be conducive to blood return; appropriate to do leg kicking action, can promote venous blood return. 2, wearing the right size of medical elastic stockings can effectively prevent varicose veins and control the development of the disease, female teachers during pregnancy should wear medical gradient elastic stockings to effectively prevent the occurrence of varicose veins. Measure the circumference of both legs to determine the right size of stocking. Measure the circumference of the legs according to the manufacturer’s instructions, usually with a tape measure, so that they are comfortable and not tight. The segmental compression stockings are designed to conform to the hemodynamics of venous blood flow in the lower extremities, with the pressure gradually decreasing towards the proximal end, creating a decreasing pressure on the lower extremities from the bottom up, giving the veins external support and promoting the return of blood from the superficial veins to the deep veins. This reduces venous blood stasis and effectively relieves or improves the pressure on the veins and venous valves of the lower extremities to control and delay the development of the disease, improve local skin malnutrition, reduce edema, prevent ulcer formation or promote ulcer healing. When choosing the right size and pressure to use elastic stockings, the first thing is to know the strength and length of the elastic stockings used by the patient, and accurate size measurement is a prerequisite for using elastic stockings. The elastic stockings should be put on in the morning before waking up. When preparing to put on the stockings, take care to keep the patient’s legs dry and apply a small amount of talcum powder if necessary. Roll the elastic stocking from the opening to the toe, prop the palm of the hand open the elastic stocking, grasp the toe hole (many medical elastic stockings have holes at the toe or instep or sole for checking the circulation), try to make the toe go deeper into the stocking roll, then pull up the elastic stocking with the thumb as a guide, there must be no wrinkles when wearing, you can gently pull the toe part of the elastic stocking to keep good mobility of the toe. Take off the elastic stockings slowly and steadily from the top when resting at night, and do not sleep in them. 3. Avoid wearing clothes that are too tight around the waist and abdomen. The clothing of waist and abdomen is too tight, which will affect the venous blood return of lower limbs and aggravate varicose veins. 4, pay attention to control weight. Obesity is an independent risk factor of varicose veins. The heavier the weight, the heavier the burden of venous blood flow back to the legs. Venous vessels will be overwhelmed, leading to the aggravation of varicose veins. Weight control helps to reduce the burden of venous return and improve varicose. 5, prevent constipation. When constipation, the abdominal pressure increases, which will cause the inferior vena cava of the abdominal cavity, the iliac vein is compressed, and the venous return pressure in the legs increases, and the return flow is obstructed, thus aggravating the varicose. 6, eat more fiber-rich food and control the intake of excessive salt. It can increase the intake of collagen in the diet to increase the elasticity of the veins and improve the symptoms. 7, drug treatment. Divided into drugs that affect the venous tone (i.e. venous active drugs), such as abortifacient, mai zhi ling, diosmin tablets, flavonoids (including rutin, rutinoside) and others; and drugs that affect the blood flow characteristics (i.e. rheological drugs), such as aspirin, hexaconitine, sulodexide. In addition, regular leg exercises and calf muscle massage can relieve lower limb fatigue and prevent varicose veins from occurring.
