Sinusitis is one of the common diseases in otorhinolaryngology. Due to the progress of industrialization and the development of examination methods, the incidence of sinusitis is also on the rise, and the incidence of adolescents is especially prominent, which seriously affects people’s life, study and work. In Chinese medicine, this disease is classified as nasal abyss, and its etiology and clinical manifestations have been more deeply understood in the era of “Nei Jing”, and now from the perspective of Chinese medicine, the pathogenesis of sinusitis is mainly wind-heat in the lung, congestion in the nasal orifices, heat in the biliary organs, attacking the nasal orifices, damp-heat in the spleen and stomach, trapping the nasal orifices, deficiency cold in the lung, evil offending the nasal orifices, spleen qi weakness, and dampness trapping the nasal orifices. Moreover, it is believed that acute sinusitis is mostly solid evidence, while chronic sinusitis is mostly deficiency evidence or mixed evidence of deficiency and reality. Through decades of observation, it is believed that chronic sinusitis, although there are many patients with lung and spleen weakness, but clinically, except for allergic sinusitis, the majority of chronic sinusitis is manifested as a mixture of deficiency and reality and the main signs of evil: nasal congestion, nasal runny nose, thick yellow-white or white snot, congestion and edema of the nasal mucosa, accompanied by dizziness and headache, decreased sense of smell, etc., while the whole body is often no obvious signs of discomfort. According to the theory that the nose belongs to the lung meridian, it is regulated by the moistening and purifying function of lung qi; the spleen is the source of qi and blood biochemistry, so the spleen is enriched to nourish the lung qi, and at the same time, the lung and spleen are involved in the distribution of qi, blood and water. The above theories, combined with the clinical manifestations of chronic sinusitis, the pathogenesis of chronic sinusitis is mainly due to the deficiency of lung and spleen, water and dampness stagnation, and the residual evil, which will turn into heat and congestion in the nasal orifices. In the case of dampness, add patchouli, cardamom, calamus, mouton, scutellaria, poria, goose bupleurum, etc.; in the case of heat, add talcum, scutellaria, patchouli, calamus, silver flower, red peony, etc. This method is used to treat chronic sinusitis, together with our in-hospital preparation of nasal drops, which has been effective for many people. For those who do not heal or have anomalies in the sinus complex of the nasal tract and obvious obstruction, surgical treatment is recommended.
