Hand, foot and mouth disease isolation time

The duration of isolation for HFMD is determined by contagiousness, so the patient should be isolated until he or she is not contagious. Once HFMD is diagnosed, the child should be isolated at home until the temperature is normal, the rash subsides, and the blisters crust over, which takes about 2 weeks, so the duration of isolation is about 2 weeks from the onset of the disease. HFMD is very contagious and is most contagious within 1 week after the onset of the disease. HFMD is mainly transmitted through the fecal-oral route, but can also be transmitted through respiratory droplets. Therefore, during the isolation period, it is important to wash hands frequently and thoroughly disinfect the items used by the child, either by soaking in disinfectant solution or by boiling, and items that cannot be soaked or boiled can be exposed to sunlight.
