In both children and adults, circumcision needs to be performed under anesthesia to block the pain during surgery. The choice of local or general anesthesia is based on the child’s ability to tolerate pain during local anesthesia and the degree of cooperation with the surgery. If the child is not old enough to tolerate local anesthesia and to cooperate with the surgery, general anesthesia should be chosen for the surgery. In addition, if the presence of foreskin inflammation is considered before surgery or if there are other special reasons, surgery under general anesthesia is recommended.
