How many times can a nucleic acid test rule out coronavirus

In the absence of clinical symptoms and a history of specific exposure, one negative nucleic acid test is usually sufficient to rule out coronavirus; however, if the patient has clinical symptoms or a history of specific exposure, more than two nucleic acid tests may be required to rule out coronavirus. If the person is from a low-risk area and does not have clinical symptoms or a history of specific exposure, usually only 1 negative nucleic acid test is needed to rule out coronavirus. However, there may be an incubation period or false negatives for new coronaviruses, and some patients may have several negative nucleic acid tests. Therefore, in high-risk individuals with clinical symptoms or a history of specific exposure, one test is not enough to confirm the diagnosis and more than two tests are needed to rule out coronavirus. If the patient has clinical symptoms such as fever or a history of special exposure, it is recommended that the patient be reported to the local immunization department and isolated.
