Dietary modification for GERD patients

In recent years, the prevalence of gastroesophageal reflux in our population has tended to increase due to changes in dietary structure. Although there are differences in the severity of the disease, it is difficult to heal repeatedly, which brings a heavy economic and mental burden to patients. Although proven treatment methods and therapeutic drugs continue to emerge, and experts in the gastroenterology departments of major hospitals in China have accumulated considerable experience and experience, it is impossible to completely cure a functional disease without close cooperation from the patient, and even if the symptoms are temporarily relieved, subsequent relapses can be caused by many factors such as diet, life, and emotions. I would like to introduce the following dietary considerations for patients, I hope they will be helpful to friends, and I sincerely hope you can recover as soon as possible. First, the choice of diet: 1, in order to reduce the chance of reflux, should try to choose light, soft, easy to digest food, avoid eating greasy fried and pickled food. You can eat some pasta, such as steamed buns, noodles, etc., but the amount of pure meat-filled buns, dumplings should be controlled. For meat soup such as chicken soup, meat soup, pork ribs soup is best to eat as little as possible, for fatty meat, meat skin, etc. should also be avoided. It should be noted that the appropriate to eat some lean pork, chicken, fish generally will not aggravate the disease, but to supplement the nutritional benefits. 2, eat less food to delay the emptying of the stomach. Delayed gastric emptying, not only indirectly increases the chance of reflux, while patients will also appear bloated, belching a variety of discomfort. This type of food mainly includes some sticky food, such as dumplings, rice cakes, lantern, stuffed wine, etc. 3, less food to the gastric mucosa has obvious stimulation. This type of food can increase the secretion of gastric juice, causing a significant increase in the amount of gastric acid and other major reflux substances in the stomach, but also increases the chance of reflux. This type of food mainly refers to too cold, too hot, too acidic, too sweet food and spicy stimulating food, which includes onion, garlic, candy, etc.. For wine, coffee, strong tea and other beverages that have obvious stimulation to the stomach must pay extra attention to drink as little as possible. 4, less consumption of coarse grains, nuts (including pistachios, melon seeds, chestnuts, etc.), a variety of snacks, puffed products, cream cakes, chocolate, etc.. These foods can also stimulate the gastric mucosa and increase the chance of reflux. 5, general vegetables will not cause or aggravate reflux, you can choose to use, but for leeks, cilantro, fava beans and other vegetables considered by Chinese medicine may lead to fire or disease recurrence should be properly controlled. 6, general fruit will not cause or aggravate reflux, but each consumption of fruit should not be too much too mixed, not too cold and too sweet, such as bananas, sugar cane, etc. best to avoid eating. Second, the number of dietary choices: because reflux patients have more gastric dysfunction, so the amount of food should be appropriate to avoid overfull or hunger and satiety. I generally recommend that breakfast and Chinese food can be eaten to seven or eight points full, dinner five or six points full is about the same, in order to avoid bedtime hunger, dinner should not eat too early. Generally six or seven o’clock dinner, about nine o’clock can go to bed. Third, the status of activities after eating: To reduce reflux, try not to strenuous activities after meals, try to reduce bending, squatting, abdominal posture, and choose a relaxed, soothing activities, such as walking. Of course, absolutely do not allow post-meal sleeping, lying, sedentary behavior, because these can aggravate reflux. If conditions do not allow, you can gently stroke the upper abdomen to help empty the food downstream in the stomach.
